José Sánchez del Río

the patron saint of the youth guild.

Saint José Sánchez del Río was fourteen years old when he fought against enemies of the Church during the Cristero War. He was captured, imprisoned, and tortured for refusing to deny Christ; and his last words showed his deep, strong faith: “¡Viva Cristo Rey! ¡Viva la Virgen de Guadalupe!” (Long Live Christ the King! Long Live the Virgin of Guadalupe!).

The moving story of his brave life and death is shown in the film For Greater Glory. The children and young people who come to know Saint José better will, with the help of his example and his prayers, grow in their love of Christ the King and His Mother, the Virgin of Guadalupe. Since the Church has declared him the patron of children, teenagers, and persecuted Christians, his example is especially powerful.
