Through a Child’s Eyes: Easter Youth Art

Each month, we receive countless letters and works of art from Youth Guild members. Angels flying across crayon-streaked skies, nuns on parade singing a tune, and dozens of renderings of the Blessed Mother and the Sacred Heart of Jesus fill our mailbox.

The Catholic tradition has always understood that beauty is not merely decoration and creation not merely a hobby. It is no different for a child. When a child picks up a pencil or a brush, seeking to express what they feel in their heart, even they are humbly participating in the same creative impulse that moved God to speak the world into existence, as we see below.

We can remember the feeling of being lost in play as a child, totally immersed in the act of making something unique from what surrounded us. We take profound joy in the results of these moments, where these children were immersed in their own participation in God’s great story, bearing witness to Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice, and expressing that witness for the world to see. It is our hope that the graces they receive from the Youth Guild continue to influence their interior worlds and sense of peace as they grow—that their knowledge of Jesus’ abiding presence is a steadfast anchor for whatever life brings them.

These works remind us that salvation is a living, breathing reality that even the smallest among us can perceive and proclaim. They are changed by it. We feel, honor, and seek to mimic the faith we find here, and we find ourselves drawn into a deeper awareness of just how wide, how personal, and how inexhaustible God’s love truly is.

We hope you enjoy this month’s selection of Youth Art, focused on the Eucharist and Christ’s Passion, but beginning with this delightful homage to Lent.

He is Risen! Happy Easter from all of us at the Youth Guild of Saint José Sánchez del Río!
